A Bit About Us

In the late 1970s, My uncle Ben and his friend Jeff saw an old man painting numbers on the curb In San Diego California. They were utterly fascinated by what he was doing. They talked him into letting them work for him and learn the business. They taught my Father how to paint curbs in Utah when he was 15 years old. He came up with the idea to pass out flyers from house to house instead of knocking on doors with a sales pitch. By the early '90s, my Father and Mother had moved to Kansas City. So my Dad could paint during the day and pursue his career as a Professional Volleyball player in the afternoon.

While I was still in kindergarten my father began to teach me the value of hard work. I would collect the money while he painted. When I was 12 I began passing out flyers door to door on my summer break and after school.

By the time I was 14 years old I was painting on my own. I would load up a backpack and go door to door after school so I could buy the things I wanted rather than having to ask my parents to buy them for me.

Not much has changed in the way we serve our communities. Our flyer is almost word for word the same as it was when I was 5 years old. We still strive to paint the longest-lasting numbers we can. We only use the highest quality paints and we frequently converse with paint chemists to make sure that we are using the best paint for the job. Recently we have started using power tools to remove existing numbers from the curb if we think the old numbers will affect the lifespan of our numbers.

Neighborhood Enhancement Program

The Neighborhood Enhancement Program (Curb Painting) has always had one primary focus.

KEEPING DRIVERS EYES ON THE ROAD.

"A distraction is anything that takes your attention away from driving. Driver distractions may occur anytime and anywhere. Distracted driving can cause collisions, resulting in injury, death, or property damage. Taking your eyes off the road or hands off the steering wheel presents obvious driving risks."    Kansas Drivers License Handbook

When you are driving through an unfamiliar neighborhood your attention should be on the road. Looking out for pedestrians, bicyclists, children playing, a dog off its leash, oncoming traffic, or a car backing out of its driveway. If your eyes are not on the road while you are searching for a house number that has been randomly attached to a home you are distracted.

Having your address number on the curb in a uniform location means others can find your home without being distracted. We always paint our numbers on the same side of your driveway as your front door as close to the driveway as possible. We offer discounted rates for additional locations for homes with U-shaped Driveways, multiple driveways, or homes located on a corner.

When an order is placed the first thing we do is inspect the curb, we check it for cracks, city pavement markings that may indicate the city will be replacing the curb soon. We check for rust which can cause discoloration, and waterlines that may erode your numbers prematurely and we check for old numbers that may need to be removed before we paint.

If there is a problem with the default location a representative will discuss options with you before painting or line your numbers up with your front door if it is a better location. If existing numbers are chipping, oil-based, or have been painted over and over again we will use a combination of Heat, Acetone, and Angle Grinder to remove as many of the old numbers as possible. We want our numbers to look great and last a long time.

We only use Industrial Latex-based traffic paint for the background and numbers. Any colors that are used for logos are painted with Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2x which has a UV protectant in it which is like sunscreen for your numbers. It helps prevent fading and keeps your colors bright longer.

We apply reflective glass beads to the white paint this gives your numbers a large reflective surface to catch the attention of drivers at night. Some other curb painters use glitter, street-grade glass beads, or no reflective medium. We use a combination of street grade, airline grade, and ultra-fine grade glass beads that are usually used in prismatic traffic signs. Our reflective backgrounds create a contrast that makes your numbers easy to read even out of the corner of your eye.

After the installation of your numbers is complete a representative will knock on your door and ask you to check for the right numbers before collecting. If you are not home payment instructions will be left on your door.

Letters of Recommendation.
